We often get asked what we mean by "open research" both on the nitty gritty skills level as well as more broadly in terms of the characteristics we deem important for the community to thrive.

The Mozilla Science Lab is helping a global network of researchers, tool developers, librarians and publishers collaborate to further science on the web. We believe a community of peers working, learning and building together is needed to make research thrive on the open web.

We do this by:

  • Building communities and technical prototypes;
  • Teaching skills needed to further open practices;
  • Empowering others to learn, solve problems and build new tools together.

In the spirit of the Web Literacy Map, we took a stab at an "Open Research Skills and Competency Map", adapted for the Science Lab community. This is still a work in progress, but we'd love your thoughts to further hone them. We often get asked what we mean by "open research" both on the nitty gritty skills level as well as more broadly in terms of the characteristics we deem important for the community to thrive.
