Will we keep Firefox 2 content in the Knowledge Base
Firefox 2 content will be kept until the percentage of support.mozilla.com visitors using Firefox 2 reaches less than 2%.
Transition period
During this time of transition, we want to encourage Firefox 2 users to update to the latest version. To do this, we will create a dynamic content block, that will notify Firefox 2 users that they should update. The wording for the content block will be provided by the Marketing team.
Firefox2-only articles
For articles that only apply to Firefox 2 and not Firefox 3, we can add the content block manually. The English articles that only apply to Firefox 2 are:
- Gray bar below the status bar
- Quality Feedback Agent
- DOM Inspector
- Firefox prints pages in a different layout
- OCSP error when accessing secure sites
Firefox2+3 articles
For articles that apply to both Firefox 2 and Firefox 3, the same content will be displayed, when Firefox 2.0 is selected under "Show content customized for". Instead of adding it manually to hundreds of articles, we will have it applied to the article stylesheet.
One idea under investigation, is to remove Firefox 2 content, and use browser sniffing to detect if the visitor is using Firefox 2. If they are, a previous version of the article will be shown.
After transition
After the percentage of support.mozilla.com visitors using Firefox 2 reaches less than 2%, we will probably move Firefox 2 content to the Archive category.
