Help new people become active contributors by becoming a Mozilla mentor. (You can also help in other ways).

Help a newbie on Bugzilla or IRC

There will soon be a 'new' tag next to people's names in Bugzilla who have just started using the system. Take a minute to answer a new user's question, provide a helpful pointer or just say something nice about how great it is they want to help.

Hang out in an IRC channel devoted to answering questions from new community members and spend a couple minutes responding to people. The #introduction channel has been set up for helping people interested in development. Add a link to channels for other project areas here or start a new one today.

Offer to mentor a specific bug

You can offer to mentor someone who wants to take on a specific bug, by adding [mentor=your_bugzilla_name] to the bug's status whiteboard.

It is also useful to add a comment in the bug providing pointers to relevant information as well as a note that you're happy to help answer questions anyone if they want to work on this.

Respond to contribution inquiries

The Get Involved page asks people to contact us if they have any questions about how to get involved with Mozilla. We are looking for people to handle responses for their project areas, which means:

  • send initial response
  • followup if they dont respond back
  • get them a first bug they'd be interested in
  • answering any questions they have

Contact david at mozilla dot org if you're interested in this. We're also interested in help from people who don't use the mozilla-central tree. (Also, if you know all about how to get involved with support, then you can be the support point person).
