What's in, what's out?

Need to communicate more clearly the pedagogy we use and what's in scope for Webmaker

We need clarity around what's in scope and what's out. If it has nothing to do with the web, not sure that it's actually in scope for Webmaker?

2) We need an ethos offering

Webmaker is more than just code. When we run events, we talk about and embody the open web, collaboration, participation, digital citizenship.

This is a message we need to surface better to the public via content.

How can we reflect the ethos principles we champion in the Open Web Community in our content? How can someone learn about the tenets of openness via projects?

3) Mentors are asking for help understanding the soft skills of mentoring.

Things like human development, facilitation techniques, and other practical resources for mentorship

We need to create and curate a library of reusable resources (like slide decks, visuals, forms, etc) for mentors to use, hack and expand on.

We have the beginning of this library on the Teach wiki. If you have resources, contribute them (just edit the wiki)! https://wiki.mozilla.org/Webmaker/Teach

4) People are having a hard time finding resources.

Thus are lacking confidence to teach, run events, or design their own agendas

Blame the mullet. We have lots of resources and documentation in the Mozilla wiki, but we don’t have a good way to surface things (yet).

What we need to think about: ways to remix, reshuffle, and repost agendas and hacktivities. A Playlist for Mentors.

Right now, the hacktivity kits are overflowing with details. But to pull more mentors in, they need a quick overview and a way to hack.

5) We need ways to matchmake

Mentors want to figure out who else in their local area is working in this domain.

Educators are looking for technologists and vice versa.

Webmaker can and should help matchmake. Perhaps this is simply by using location tags in profiles, perhaps this is a more robust community outreach initiative. In any event, people who are active in a learning or technology community should reach out to other communities. There are tons of online communities that are open and accepting, and you never know when something you say or write will change the way someone else works, thinks or acts. So be social!

QUESTIONS

Your

How to Get Involved:

================================================================
Pixel Shaders Demo (Toby Schachman / Angela)
Follow the demo here: http://mzl.la/screenshare
Enter any name

Links and context:

Pixelshaders, Toby Schachman

http://pixelshaders.com/

More context on the Open Art Fellowships:

https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2012/12/05/openart/

NOTES & COMMENTS

QUESTIONS

How to Get Involved:

Email tqs AT alum.mit.edu

Come to Shader Meetup monthly in SF https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/sf-shaders

https://github.com/electronicwhisper/pixel-shaders

================================================================

Mozfest 2012: The Aftermath Report (Michelle Thorne) (5min)

Links and context:

http://michellethorne.cc/2013/01/mozfest-2012-the-aftermath-report/

http://mozillafestival.org/

NOTES & COMMENTS

Summary of what we did this year, why it matters, and recommendations for next year.

Ideas for next year. Still needs to be broadly appealing, but we would love your ideas!

Some potential topics:

–A description of a really cool event someone put on, that makes putting on an event sound cool and fun to others

–a couple of new projects get added to Webmaker

–The Webmaker gallery launches

–Valentine’s Day Lovebomb

–Something changes about Collusion

–Firefox OS takes a noteworthy leap

–Something else Product-Y that we can offer a bit of promo to

–Awesome standalone graphics (like the Mozilla in 2012 graphic that we sent at the end of the year)

–A community input pitch at a key moment

–Etc.

So, please add any ideas you have! >
QUESTIONS

What are the guidelines for who should post on Planet Webmaker?

Good question! We need to discuss and draft those up. Perhaps using Planet Mozilla's process as a starting point.

What's a "tagged feed?" /

How do I make sure only the right stuff from my blog appears on Planet Webmaker?

You may write about lots of different stuff on your personal blog -- not all of which you want to appear on Planet Webmaker.

We use tagged feeds to help with this. So that only posts that you tag with "Mozilla" or "Webmaker," for example, show up on Planet Webmaker.

“How do I figure out what the URL for my tagged feed is?”

If you’re using WordPress, there’s helpful documentation on this here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Feeds#Finding_Your_Feed_URL

A “Mozilla” tagged feed might look something like this: http://openmatt.wordpress.com/tag/mozilla-2/feed/

Should I be posting to Planet Mozilla as well? What's the different between Planet Mozilla and Planet Webmaker?

Planet Mozilla = the entire Mozilla universe. Everything under the sun. If you're a Mozilla community member or staff, you should definitely be posting here.

Planet Webmaker = just the Webmaker project.

How do I get added to Planet Mozilla?

http://mzl.la/Planet_Mozilla_HOWTO
</ul
