Twin sharing hotel rooms are booked for 3 nights from 24-27 January (mid-day to mid-day).

Breakfast is open from 7.30 to 11 a.m.
The check in starts at 1pm, check out is before 11am. Reception is open 24/7.
If you arrive sooner or leave later, you can put your luggage in the hotel's cloaking room.

Travel & Transport

Arrival/Departure

  • After landing, please follow the signs and head towards the immigration
  • After clearing the customs, collect your baggage & walk out of Airport
  • Someone would in Mozilla/Firefox T-Shirt to greet you outside of gate
  • If you can't spot anyone, try to go online & ping the local folks
    • Look for a WiFi hotspot named Mozilla
    • Password would be @mozilla
  • If you can't go online, then try to call Deb (+91 738 770 5588)
  • If all fails, then take the Bus #V1 & drop at Ruby Hospital
    • V1 leaves from just next to the exit gate
    • Frequency is around every 20min
    • The fare is Rs. 40, please collect the tickets
    • Remember to drop at Ruby Bus Stand & the hotel is next to it
  • Alternatively, you can get a cab from the airport to "Ruby Hospital"
    • Cabs are highly unlikely to run on meter fare
    • Mostly would ask for a fixed fare (~300-500 INR)
  • Once in front of Ruby Hospital, cross the street
  • Go to the stem of the T junction - The Gateway Hotel is just there.

It can be life-saver to have the map cached on your device.

Getting Around

  • The landmark for the venue is "Ruby Hospital", "East Kolkata Township"
  • If ever confused, the venue is just beside the southern part of EM Bypass
  • There should be available bus services to and from the location, as well as cabs
  • To visit the South Kolkata, best is to take a westward Bus to "Gariahat Crossing"
  • The nearest Metro stations are Kavi Subhash, New Garia or Shahid Khudiram, Garia
  • With Metro, you can go to Esplanade for Downtown Kolkata, or upto Dumdum for North Kolkata
  • Alternatively, you can take a bus to Ballygunge station & then take local-train to Sealdah Station

All participants will enjoy Bengali, as well as continental foods throughout the event.

Getting a temporary SIM card should be easy:

  • Please carry an ID (and photocopies) with your permanent address
  • Please carry a couple of recent passport sized photographs
  • Connection is activated within a couple of hours (0-4hrs)
  • Mostly regular SIMs are available; should work with Keon
  • Nearly all provide good temporary data-plans
    • Go with Airtel or Vodafone, for best data-plans & coverage


Tips & Trivia

When in Kolkata, don't forget to:

  • Try Fuchkas – The Kolkata version of the street food gol gappa available all over India, fuckas are much tangier spicier and out of this world!!
  • Shopping at Gariahat – Gariahat is the shopping hub of south Kolkata. It is a shopaholic’s paradise, being the retail hub of Saris (from West Bengal and all over India), cosmetics, electronics, etc.


Warnings and Dangers:

  • Drink bottled water
    • Check to confirm seal has not been broken.
    • Do NOT drink tap water or any water served in a restaurant in a glass
    • Bring stomach medications from home that you know work, just in case.
  • Ignore/avoid Beggars
    • Kolkata is mostly full of them
    • They are attracted to the foreigners
    • DO NOT give money to one - the entire flock will chase you
  • The traffic in Kolkata is chaotic.
    • There are no "zipper-method" when two cars want to drive at the same time.
    • Expect maddening amount of car-honks at first (then you'll get used to it)
    • Look both sides of the road (even on one ways) while crossing
    • Sharpen your senses & blend in to the chaos - have fun

Sponsorship policy

Mozilla will cover all accommodation, food and travel expenses during the contributor event. This includes hotel expenses from 25-26, breakfast, lunch and dinner (plus Welcome dinner on 24th & Goodbye breakfast on 27th). You're on your own for extended stay. Please notify the travel agent to have your flights booked accordingly with your preferred date.
