I'm a software developer who primarily works on backend systems for web applications. I prefer Python, Django, RESTful APIs, and git. I like helping users and coworkers, data processing and metrics, and I'm getting into type-based programming via mypy. I'm jwhitlock on Github and other places. I'm working on:
- Firefox Relay (mozilla/fx-private-relay), a privacy service that provides email and phone masks
- Location (mozilla/ichnaea ) (unofficially), a service that provides location estimates via IP and nearby WiFi and Cell networks, for Firefox on Linux and much of the Linux ecosystem via GeoClue and UnifiedNlp.
I previously worked on:
- 2020-2022 - Taskcluster and related projects
- 2021-2022 - CTMS
- 2019-2020 - Crash ingestion and reporting (socorro) and related tech
- 2015-2019 - Kuma, the engine that used to run MDN Web Docs
- 2014-2015 - The browsercompat project, an abandoned attempt to add structure to MDN compatibility tables while preserving contribution data.
