If Firefox is no longer supported on your operating system, Mozilla offers the following advice:

Windows

If you're not sure, you can find out which version of Windows you are running.

All versions of Windows newer than those listed here are supported. Please install and run the latest version of Firefox.

Mac OS X

  • OS X 10.4 or 10.5 on PowerPC: You should install TenFourFox. However, note that TenFourFox is not an official Mozilla release and does not have all the functions of official Firefox. In particular, plugins are not supported.
  • OS X 10.4 on Intel: You should upgrade to a newer version of OS X. Until then, you can install TenFourFox and run it under Rosetta (Apple's PowerPC to Intel binary translation layer). However, note that TenFourFox is not an official Mozilla release and does not have all the functions of official Firefox. In particular, plugins are not supported.
  • OS X 10.3 or earlier: Your OS is no longer supported by its manufacturer. Please follow these instructions.

All versions of Mac OS X newer than those listed here are supported. Please install and run the latest version of Firefox.

Linux

Linux vendors often provide their own versions of Firefox. If that is the case for you, please consult your vendor about support and upgrades. If you are using a version of Firefox downloaded from Mozilla, then your Linux distribution needs to have the capabilities outlined here. If it does not, you will need to upgrade to a newer version of Linux.

OS Unsupported By Manufacturer

If your operating system is linked to this section, then it is longer receiving security updates from the OS manufacturer. Therefore, connecting to the Internet using it (with any browser) puts your data and the Internet ecosystem at risk. It is not possible to make such systems secure. You should either:

  • Stop connecting to the Internet using this machine; or
  • Upgrade the machine to a supported and secure operating system; or
  • Replace the machine with one running a supported and secure operating system.

If the machine is unable to support newer versions from your OS manufacturer, you may wish to consider installing a different operating system.
