Mozilla Student Reps help spread Firefox and promote Mozilla’s mission. They head up campaigns and projects at their schools and in their local communities.
Student Reps are passionate, creative and resourceful. By showing people why Firefox rocks, they help their classmates have a better Web experience.
Overview
The Mozilla Project comprises many contributors from many places with even more skill sets and perspectives. Given its diversity and scope, getting involved in Mozilla Community can seem challenging to newcomers. The Mozilla Student Reps program exists to empower young people and students with the tools and resources needed to lead, learn, and advocate for Mozilla's mission and projects.
Who are Student Reps?
Mozilla Student Reps are students who are passionate about Mozilla and raise awareness for the many benefits of Firefox and other Mozilla products. They are point persons for those, both at their school or in their communities, who want to get involved in different functional areas and help Mozilla accomplish great things.
To serve as a Student Rep you must be at least eighteen years of age and currently enrolled in school (college/university or higher).
How is the Student Rep program organized?
The Student Reps program is an integral part of Mozilla Reps (ReMo), and together they form a holistic volunteer organization within Contributor Engagement.
Situated within ReMo, Student Reps and offers young, new contributors mentorship and a clear path to become official representative in their community. Student Reps and Mozilla Reps work closely on the regional level to accomplish goals and advance as contributors. Background and Re-launch
The Mozilla Student Reps program was largely dormant for two years, lacking resources necessary to support members and grow. In 2011, a Community Manager for Students was brought on to gather feedback, re-launch the program, and coordinate its activities going forward.
With its official re-launch in December 2011, Mozilla Student Reps will build on its previous success as well as expand to support even more contributors and projects in the future. Updated regularly on this wiki are the projects, toolkits, channels, planning, and frequently-asked-questions associated with the Student Reps program.
Projects and Getting Started
The ability to create a good idea and turn it into an effective event or campaign is what makes contributing to Mozilla so fun and rewarding. Below are a few project areas that have been successful at schools around the world. To help you get started, we outlined what we think you will need organize these projects, and we left lots of room for you to adapt them for your school or community. Try taking the lead with one or more of these projects:
- Create a Club: Start clubs to advocate usage of Firefox and other Mozilla products on campus and socialize with other Mozilla fans
- Promote Firefox and Mozilla: Spread the word by hosting events, blogging, and promoting through social media and the Firefox Affiliates program.
- Get Firefox and Mozilla Products on Campus: Installing Firefox and other Mozilla products at your school make them easily accessible
- Set up a Firefox help desk: Allow students to get help from a physical help desk or a virtual one

Training and Orientation
Orientation for new and existing Student Reps will be scheduled for January 2012 and announced on this wiki and via other program channels (see Channels and Resources section below).
In the Student Reps Forum, Reps will have the opportunity to:
- Interact with the Engagement team and other functional areas at Mozilla
- Learn about the latest campaigns and future projects
- Share their ideas and get feedback
The above mentioned meetings will take place on IRC (#studentreps) as well as be broadcast live via Air Mozilla and archived for future use.
Incentives and Evaluation
We strive to reward exceptional contributions with recognition, exposure, and other benefits -- and Student Reps who exhibit exceptional leadership and a willingness to take on new projects are no exception to this tradition. We ask Student Reps to submit documentation upon completing projects and milestones to measure progress within the program. Reports, surveys, and case studies are regularly exchanged between Reps, the Community Manager, and Regional Leaders to facilitate the advancement of contributors and the overall goals. - Featured in newsletters, campaigns, and public channels

Channels and Resources
We utilize a variety of outlets to keep Student Reps updated and in touch with each other.
Newsletter
The Student Bulletin newsletter broadcasts program updates, regional snapshots and events, and special offers to all who sign-up.
Social Media
Updated a few times weekly, the Student Reps Facebook page and Twitter account offer the latest updates on Firefox, Mozilla, and student related news and events.
IRC and Ning Network
Student Reps and others contributors use the IRC channel #studentreps and the Student Reps Network on Ning to ask questions, share ideas, and interact with other Mozillians.
Website
Currently undergoing an update, the Student Reps website will be the main resource for program. It's comprised of four pages -- Home, Projects, Marketing, Highlights, and Help -- to guide contributors through the program's main functions. Please refer to this wiki until further notice.
SWAG and Presentation Materials
Student Rep will have opportunities throughout the year to signup for a Firefox “swag pack,” usually around major marketing campaigns like a Firefox launch or the start of the school year. We will let you know when it’s time to submit your requests, so please wait for the right times before asking.
Beyond the Firefox swag we will provide, you can always make your own! As long as you follow our Firefox Brand Toolkit guidelines, you are free to create anything from posters to t-shirts on your own and give them out to your community (you just can’t sell them for money/profit).
