If the user wants to type a new url, they can doubleclick the urlbar anywhere or single click the http:// section. This would basically provide an empty urlbar to use. | If the user wants to type a new url, they can doubleclick the urlbar anywhere or single click the http:// section. ===Autcomplete===
In both these cases, I think a major boon for users is for autocomplete to not force them to endure a list of URL's reading:
http://www.google.com/search?q=pants&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
http://www.google.com/search?q=new+pants&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
http://www.google.com/search?q=blue+pants&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
etc. etc. I can't find head or tails in there, and I know what most of that means. Autocomplete as is currently is, does slightly better by showing page titles off to the side of the URL. Woo!
A better implementation should focus on those page titles, as they're designed to be human readable. I'd propose they should be put first, and favicons that exist should be shown too.
