Chicago Summer of Learning Badges Program
Mozilla is advising the city of Chicago and Chicago-based organizations to design and implement badges to capture various forms of learning throughout the summer in order to make their Summer of Learning program awesome.
For the Chicago Summer of Learning, Mozilla is playing the following roles:
- Advising on overall campaign design.
- Supporting the organizations on badge design and implementation.
- Building and hosting the badge-issuing platform.
- Celebrating with the rest of Chicago this summer!
What is Chicago Summer of Learning?
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has announced an ambitious initiative to ensure that youth across the city of Chicago will have access to high-quality learning opportunities over the summer. Beginning in the summer of 2013, private and public summer programs will provide educational experiences to youth across the city, recognize that learning and skill development through digital badges, and then connect youth to opportunities for jobs, internships and credit in the school year.
How will badges in the Summer of Learning work?
This summer, private and public organizations will offer learning programs for youth and issue badges to recognize the learning and skill development that occurs. Youth will earn badges as they participate and complete various programs and learning experiences. These organizational badges will accumulate to city-level badges that will unlock access to special projects and events for youth that span organizations and skill areas, providing exciting and inspiring pathways to continued learning and leveling up. Youth will also have an online profile to track their progress and get recommendations for additional learning options and badges to earn.
