Mozilla efforts in Hungarian Higher Education
========================================
Mozillian contributors' efforts on spreading organized, state-of-the-art Open Web education across Hungarian higher education institutions.

Project lead:


Krisztián has bold plans to help us spread Mozilla/Firefox OS (but ultimately, open web) education in Hungarian higher education institutions. Part of these plans is arranging long-term education partnerships with the main educational centers across the country and enroll them into the Firefox OS MOOC pilot-program, which is a live streamed one-semester-long lecture on Firefox OS application development, happening simultaneously in all participating institutions.

Project TODO
=================

  • Align future plans, create elaborate structure for the 2015/2016 semester
    • possible work together with MoFo
    • expanding local mentor base (ascension of alumni into demonstrators)
  • Elaborate on long-term plans for future sustainability & expansion
    • additional courses (Webmaker?)
    • transitioning course materials into the Content Kit format, converting presentations from prezi to (possibly offlineable) HTML5 slide deck format
    • localizing material (translation into English)
    • extending beyond borders (technical education in hungarian language Slovakia/Romania/Serbia?)
    • localization and export of course materials into other communities
  • Onboard even more institutions onto the Pilot
    • GDF - 300 CS students/year - no response yet
    • BME - 600 CS students/year - not approached yet
    • ELTE - searching for opportunities / not possible in current format
    • Veszprém/Győr/Debrecen/Nyíregyháza
  • Explore approaches for scaling feasibility
    • local presence is a must (at least two lessons)
    • scalability of timing for a big number of locations
    • strong need for official mozilla presence for PR reasons
    • strong need for provided hardware&presenters / high price sensitivity ("free")
  • Align with Mozilla Foundation Educational goals
  • Prepare project materials for Firefox OS 3.0 transition
    • starts this Fall semester (course will be updated with 1-2 class on new architecture, service workers, new security model etc)

College of Dunaújváros will join the Firefox OS education program in Hungary!

College of Dunaújváros will host its first course on Firefox OS application development at the College this next semester. The College has a "contributor wall" with long-term University collaborators' logos, where we plan to place a Mozilla signboard to join the other logos -- at the start of the semester we plan on having a reveal ceremony for the plaque, and spending most of the day at the main hall, setting up a Mozilla booth, speaking about Mozilla technologies, and helping students partake in the newly founded courses on Open Web education.

It would be great to have Brian King as an official representative of Mozilla (not unlike the event for the Óbuda University ceremony).
