Open Design Initiative: Concept Series

Overview

In this session we'll present a brief overview of the Open Design Initiative, and specifically the Concept Series that is being launched as part of it.

The bulk of the session will be allocated to a case study and discussion with Jesse James Garrett, the co-founder of an experience strategy & design firm that has volunteered its time as part of the Open Design Initiative to produce one of the first concept videos.

Open Design Initiative

The Open Design Initiative is a Mozilla Labs outreach program to engage wide participation in exploring and prototyping future directions for the Web.

Mozilla has fostered the growth of a large and active community of highly technical contributors. A significant part of this initiative will revolve around engaging and creating a focal point for non-technical design expertise.

Specific focus will be on engaging and recruiting designers as individuals and from industry and higher education to take part in a collaborative open design process.

Concept Series

The Concept Series is a project to grow community around the surfacing of new ideas and concepts through pictures, sketches or videos as part of the Open Design Initiative.

Aurora

Aurora is the code name for one of the first community efforts to produce a video use case exploration showing one possible future user experience for the Web produced as part of the Concept Series. It is being developed by Jesse James Garrett and his team at Adaptive Path, an experience strategy & design firm based in San Francisco.
