Home Monitoring System
Vision
An affordable home monitoring system which gives users peace of mind without compromising on their privacy or locking them into a single provider.
Product
- Existing white label gateway, camera and sensors running Mozilla WoT software
- Access remotely from any device using the web
- All private data stays in your home by default
- Expand with additional existing sensors from multiple manufacturers
- No recurring subscription costs
Key Use Cases
- Securely view live video footage of your home directly over the web
- Receive notifications when motion is detected or a door is opened
- Play back recorded video clips of activity inside your home
Hypotheses
Value Proposition
- Most early adopters interested in home monitoring would prefer to pay for a system up front rather than pay for an ongoing subscription
- Most users would prefer to store private data like video footage of the inside of their home in the home itself rather than in a commercial cloud service
- Most users would prefer to have a single web interface to all the smart things in their home rather than a separate OS-specific app for each new device they buy
- Most users would prefer to buy a home monitoring system with the option of expanding it over time with devices from multiple manufacturers, rather than being limited to a single brand
Technical Feasibility
- Mozilla can build a home monitoring product by running our own WoT software on existing white label hardware
- By implementing support for standard ZigBee sensor profiles we can be compatible with a range of sensors from different manufacturers out of the box
