Making the Question More General
Hey Mitchell, Greetings Readers,
I think that our toolbox for change is bigger than just our products and associated processes.
Should we make the question a bit more general, replacing "products and our product development processes" with "resources"?

Zak,
We have a pretty good idea of how to think about our products and technology. We're in the early stage with the broader issues. In the discussions so far I've found that the openness of the broader question is hard to answer, and yet it hinders a good discussion in the areas where we can make more progress.
So the plan is that the Foundation folks will propose an addition to the goals that relates to broader issues. That will be a beginning step, to be followed by the roadmap and vision process in early 2009. I don't think we'll have a real plan for the broader issues until some time after the product and technology pieces are done.

Citing the Mozilla Manifesto
Hi Mitchell, Greetings All,
Should we include the Mozilla Manifesto in our question? It relates very closely to the 2010 goals and provides useful context.

The Web is Open again, let's build on it.
Firefox was and still is a great tool to build an Open Web. Thanks to Mozilla, competition is back in the browser field, innovation is back in web technologies and the Web is a better and more open place. Now we should think of what we can do with this Open Web.
When I think about concepts such as "open, decentralized, participatory" and I try to connect it with data, which is so important in our information society, then I always end up thinking about Web applications.
Web applications are tools that are gaining a lot of attention these days. Not only for developers - because they look cool/Web 2.0 and involves a lot of AJAX/innovative web technologies - but for every Internet users, because they are useful.
And yet, there is no "open, decentralized, participatory" solutions of this kind. Most people knows about Google docs, Zoho office... and I am sure I am not the only one waiting for Mozilla Web Apps suite.
