Major Update Test Results: Firefox 3.0.7 to Firefox 3.1 Beta 3

Instructions

  • Download Firefox 3.0.7
  • Install it and change the update channel to betatest
  • Restart the browser and select "Check for Updates" from the Help menu
  • Follow the Litmus test suite for major update Firefox 3.0 -> Firefox 3.1 Major Update list
  • Make sure all user data is preserved or make a note of what is not.
  • Use major-updated Firefox 3.1 and verify that it is operating normal.

Results

betatest

Change the update channel to betatest and check for major updates. Details pages should be localized.

  • Windows XP (juanb)
    • en-US - PASS
    • de - PASS
    • I can see the same results as abillings, but it looks like the bugs in question are either "won't fix" or a duplicate of an existing bug that has been there from the Fx1.5 times and probably won't be fixed.
  • Linux (juanb)
    • en-US - PASS
    • zh-TW - PASS
    • Notes: Results are consistent with XP. And, again, it looks like the list of incompatible extensions that is presented in the MU offer is "incomplete." Once the MU is applied the list of incompatible extensions is different (larger). From the comments in bug 483843 it looks like this will go as is.

Unsupported OSs (Make sure MU is not presented) on testing channel

  • OS X 10.3.x (juanb) - RESULT
    • Should not get update
  • Linux - GTK older than 2.10.x (tester)- RESULT
    • Tested with Ubuntu 6.06.
    • Distros with GTK older than 2.10.x should not get update (like older Ubuntu)

Unsupported locales

  • Find a couple of locales available in 3.0.7 that are not ready for 3.1b3, if any.
