Hùng's note about Vietnamese names

In (South-)Eastern Asian countries like Japan, Korean, Vietnam... the last name/surname/family name comes first. However, in Vietnam, people never call someone by their surname, even in formal situations, because, for instance, "Nguyễn" is the surname for over 40% of Vietnamese people! So, you should just call me "Hùng" or, in formal situations, "Mr. Hùng" :)

However, in order not to confuse the foreigners, some people write their names reversely and/or use English/Latin nicknames. For ex, I used to write my names as "Hùng Nguyễn", "Williams Nguyễn" or "Williams Hùng Nguyễn"... The Western order is also common for overseas Vietnamese.

Quick Tips:
- If there is an English/Latin word in someone's full name, call him/her by that name. ("Jasper")
- If you see someone's full name which has only 2 words ("Minh Nguyễn"), then for 90% of the cases, the first word ("Minh") is the first name.
- If a word is written in UPPERCASE, it will likely be the surname.

Nhằm hỗ trợ người dùng của Việt Nam, Mozilla cũng đang triển khai phiên bản tiếng Việt trên trang chủ Hỗ Trợ Firefox chính thức của Mozilla (SUMO). Nếu không lầm, Firefox sẽ là trình duyệt đầu tiên có trang hỗ trợ cho người dùng Việt Nam.

Tất nhiên, vẫn với tinh thần mở, trang Hỗ Trợ này cho phép mọi người tự do đóng góp bài viết. Xin nhắc lại , vì đây là trang chính thức của Mozilla, nên bài viết của bạn ở trên đây sẽ được xem là nguồn tham khảo có mức uy tín cao nhất.
