Pressing *1 will mute or unmute your line. If you're having trouble hearing other people, pressing *6 will make the conference louder to you (*4 makes it quieter). If other people are having trouble hearing you, pressing *9 will make you louder to everyone else (*7 reverses this).

During the call you can also join the #education channel. If you don't have an IRC client installed, you can use Mibbit to connect directly in your browser (enter a nickname and click Go). Whatever you type will be sent to the rest of the group in real time.

Notes

Ideas discussed:

  • setup some kind of tutoring / mentoring program in universities, dedicated to women, FLOSS & Mozilla. For example: by women (& maybe men also, if interested and participating in project), *for women*
  • Addons Workshops with a specific theme: for example, creating addons that can help NGOs, public benefit organizations, or humanitarian causes. Recalling a mail from organizers of the Dutch HAR event: they know of specific NGO's that are in fact very interested in addons. We should contact them again
  • "Girls & FLOSS" events / workshops, in tech-oriented universities. Possible topics to work on: Mozilla Technologies, Javascript, CSS, XUL, etc. These events / workshops could typically take place during a few days or a week.
  • looking at established programs in K-12 and post secondary education that are attempting to get young women involved in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). See below for University of Switzerland that has an Office for Equal Opportunities, and that we could work with on this.
  • conferences in universities and schools: "women in FLOSS & Mozilla" presentations, and more Mozilla presentations in general with women speakers
  • Framakey USB key: idea of distributing key in Universities. Key would contain various free software apps, Mozilla software, but can also contain documents, Mozilla tutorials (written and video), music... Sonny Piers, French Mozilla contributor and also involved in the WoMoz project, is working right now on improving the Framakey code with XULRunner. The key will soon integrate a better updating system. He is in direct contact with the Framakey people and can help us out with this
