Knight-Mozilla Community Knowledge Coordinator

This is a part-time, contracted position to support the Knight-Mozilla News Technology Partnership (aka "MoJo'"). MoJo is producing a large knowledge base that must stay current, well organized and accessible to a number of key audiences engaging with the program through multiple channels.


The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and editor, able to produce copy for both technical audiences and various publics based on varying communications specifications. She or he will be passionate and knowledgeable about online news, web technology and/or open innovation processes and a quick study.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Copy writing: producing the first pass on blogs and web site copy.
  • Technical writing: work with the team and partners to produce high quality documentation of web technologies to enable news organizations to adopt innovations produced by the Partnership.
  • Editing: quickly processing copy produced by the team that is factually accurate, well-documented and free of copy errors.
  • Knowledge base management: collect and organize information gathered and produced by the team and partners on the project's wiki page.
  • Social media management: keep Twitter, Facebook and other accounts up to date, promoting the work of the Partnership.
  • Program metrics support: monitor program metrics (such as web metrics, social media buzz, press and blog coverage, etc.)
  • Clear, regular communication with program manager. This role requires several skill sets. Any necessary support should be immediately conveyed to the manager so that he can provide resources to produce high quality deliverables.
  • Other program support as appropriate. This could include very occasional administrative or logistical support, especially when the Partnership is convening events and meetings, in-person or online.

Skills, Experience:

  • Highly organized, able to coordinate and prirotize several projects and deliverables.
  • Writing and editing for both broad public and technical audiences.
  • Ability to document web technical implementations, including those using HTML5, Javascript, jquery, [what am I missing] and willingness to learn highly desired.
  • Mediawiki markup expertise highly desired
  • Experience producing and managing web copy social media for organizational purposes preferred.
  • Experience with design and layout preferred.
  • Experience with programmatic and web metrics preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and in partnership with a fast-paced, geographically distributed team, ie a sense of humor, required.
