FAQ

Who can file a bug for gear?

Any Mozillian can file a bug to request gear to recognize another Mozillian's efforts, as long as it fits within the approved use guidelines.

Paid Mozilla staff can also request gear for other purposes (i.e. events, campaigns) through this bug.

Mozilla Reps should continue to rely on their current, well-established method for ordering gear for events and projects. And Mozillians who are not Mozilla Reps can request gear for events through a Rep in their area. When possible, please request gear from a Rep at least one month in advance.

Does my team have a budget for gear?

In 2013, each contribution area will not have a budget for gear. With this, you are welcome to order gear as it aligns with the ordering guidelines and your team's conversion points.

Before placing an order, check with your Team Gear Coordinator or Steward if you have any questions regarding these guidelines.

Is there special gear for new hires at Mozilla?

In the near future, the People Team will be launching the new hire onboarding program at Mozilla. As part of this program, individuals will be given directions on how to obtain a new hire package from the Gear Store. This package will include the *essential* Mozilla Gear that will help them get started! Look for more info on this topic from the People Team soon. For any questions, please email onboarding at mozilla dot com.

What item(s) is appropriate as a reward for a paid-staffer?

In Q2, we will be working toward crafting a 'Contributor Recognition Guide' that will help address when it is appropriate to reward both a paid-staffer and volunteer. If you would like to support building this guide, please contact David Boswell at dboswell@mozilla.com.

How do I decide what to send to a volunteer?

Great question! David Boswell and the Mozilla Stewards are currently working on metrics for what warrants gear being sent to a contributor. While it often varies by team, here are the conversion points they've developed to act as your guide when gifting gear. If your team has not already developed a series of conversion points, please reach out to David to help get you started!

Where can I go to buy gear for myself and my friends?

During Phase I, gear will be available for such scenarios as recognition and reward, events and team morale. If you would like to purchase t-shirts for personal use (or to give out to friends!), please continue to do so through the Mozilla Foundation.

Moving forward, we will investigate options for personal orders within the current store and whether to re-launch a public-facing store where gear is available to anyone for purchase.

Who can help me with a custom order?

We can! When you need to place a custom order, always fill out the 'Additional Comments' section of the traditional bug form with more information about your order and how we can be of help. (This includes an item not available in the store or customization work.)

What if I have a last minute request?

If you need gear within the week, please indicate so on the bug and we will assign the bug to a Space Gear Coordinator who will do their best to assist you from within your space.

Please note: Due to space limitations, gear is not available at every Mozilla space. To find out if gear is available from within your space, please email gearteam at mozilla dot com.

In what circumstances would it be inappropriate to order gear through this process?

  • The Gear Store isn't for personal use (in other words, ordering shirts for your team as a morale booster is ok...ordering a shirt just because you want one for yourself isn't).
  • Don't order gear without a specific purpose or objective in mind - think about why your team might need it, what purpose it would serve at an event, etc.
  • Don't order more than you need, and please don't stockpile.
  • Don't order gear for those who are not paid staff + Mozillians + friendly visitors + attendees at Mozilla events.

Will we have a public store again for fans to buy gear?

We'd like to evalulate some form of this for later in 2013, but our priority is getting gear into the hands of Mozillians.

I want to help - how can I do that?

We'd love help - everything from items you would like to see added to the store, feedback on functionality, or help coordinating gear in spaces or for teams. Please email gearteam at mozilla dot com if you'd like to help.
