Reps/Council
The Mozilla Reps Council is the governing body of the Mozilla Reps Program. It provides the general vision of the program and oversees day-to-day operations globally. Currently, 7 volunteers and 2 paid staff sit on the council. Its specific duties and functions are to:
- provide a governance and support structure to assist Mozilla Reps worldwide
- oversee global Rep activities
- oversee global budget /swag management for events
- represent Mozilla Reps interests within the Mozilla organization
- nominate Mozilla Reps mentors
- resolve disputes
- provide guidance for Mozilla Reps
Election/Designation of Council Members
The 7 volunteers sitting on the council are elected by existing Mozilla Reps for 3, 6 or 12-month terms depending on their previous term (if any) as a Council member.
Provisional Council
During the initial phase Mozilla Reps program (Phase 1), a provisional council was set up by the Mozilla Reps project leads (William and Pierros), comprised of 7 Mozilla volunteers (who have volunteered to join the council and were designated by the project leads) and 2 Mozilla paid staff (William and Pierros themselves).
Each Mozilla Rep on the provisional council was designated based on the following criteria:
- initial interest expressed in ReMo and participation in early planning discussions
- extensive experience contributing to the Mozilla project and deep knowledge of the project
- geographic location
Second (current) Council
In early September, as decided during the Mozilla Reps Camp 2012 the second Mozilla Reps Council was selected through random selection. Candidates were all mentors who corresponded to the criteria defined during the Camp. The first 3 candidates chosen were automatically given a 1 year term, and the remaining 4 candidates were given a 6 month term.
Third Council - (March 2013)
In early March 2013, the third Council will be selected. This time, the selection of the council will be decided through popular vote. Only mentors will be able to run for Council and Mozilla Reps will be asked to cast their vote to elect each member. There will be 4 candidates elected for a 1 year term.
Fourth Council - (October 2013)
In early October 2013, the fourth Council will be selected through popular vote. Only mentors will be able to run for Council and Mozilla Reps will be asked to cast their vote to elect each member. There will be 3 candidates elected for a 1 year term.

Council Chair
ReMo Council Chairmanship Overview: Starting November 1st, 2012, the Mozilla Reps Council will designate a chairperson to help make the council work more efficiently and effectively. The "Council Chair" will have the following responsibilities for 1 month, on a rotating basis:
- coordinate council meetings
- send meeting reminders to the council
- create meeting agenda and gather agenda items from all members
- chair council meeting
- share meeting minutes and follow-up on action items with designated owners
- be spokesperson for the council at the organizational level (eg. team meetings, offsites, town hall meetings, mailing lists
- keep overall program goals and ojectives in check and ensure that everything is on track

Tasks and Responsibilities of Council Members
Members of the Council have specific tasks to complete and responsibilities to agree to once they join the Council, including:
- individually guide/mentor Mozilla Rep applicants in their region if assigned an applicant by William or Pierros
- contact applicant via email (council designates mentor based on region/number)
- schedule a short IRC meeting the same week for a short interview
- give Go/No-Go after consulting with council and performing background check
- in case of a No-Go, inform applicant via email about decision
- in case of Go: inform applicant of next steps via email
- guide applicant through process of signing and returning the Mozilla Reps Agreement, creating wiki profile, subscribing to mailing list and providing walk-through of main ReMo Tools and SOPs
- participate in short bi-weekly IRC meetings to discuss overall status and roadmap of the program
- attend ReMo work week(s) to meet in person, brainstorm and discuss future of the program (NB: no date or location have been determined nor has any budget been allocated yet so stay tuned for that)
- provide mentorship and guidance to Mozilla Rep mentors and Mozilla Reps
Reviewing and Approving Budget Requests
Although clear budget review process will continuously be refined and improved, the ReMo council helps oversee budget requests and raise concerns based on this current SOP.
A reference table detailing different types of events that have been organized in the past and how much they have cost, can help the Council make a decision on a specific budget request.
