Webmaker event in Nasik, India: what did we learn? (Ankit)
Recent webmaker event hosted by Ankit and Gauthamraj Elaongo in Nasik, India
Event page: https://reps.mozilla.org/e/webmaker-init-nasik/
Blog post: http://ankitgadgil.blogspot.in/2013/04/april-marked-1st-ever-mozilla-event-in.html
Photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ankitgadgil/sets/72157633189456021/
News Coverage: https://thimble.webmaker.org/p/lca9/
What did you learn?:
Creativity and innovation flows while working in groups
While teaching webmaker tools, teach Thimble prior to X-ray Goggles
Give participants some themes to work on.
Popcorn maker best explained using a theme.
What resources or tools did you use?
Thimble
Popcorn maker
X-ray goggles
Cool! did you use any Hacktivity Kits, event guides, or specific projects?
What's next?
New events with Webmakers, Persona and Open Badges.
Focussing on school children now, as they are the future of the web.
Event : Young Webmakers Nasik
https://reps.mozilla.org/e/young-webmakers-nasik/
https://webmaker.org/en-US/events/58ddb35b1/
How can others get involved?
If you are able to travel to Nasik, we would be great to have you at one of the events. Please get in touch with Ankit Gadgil (https://reps.mozilla.org/u/ankitgadgil/)
QUESTIONS
Why did you find it effective to teach Thimble before the X-Ray Goggles?
X-ray goggles give you the power to hack with ease. Wheres thimble requires you to work a bit with html. If we teach X-ray goggles first there is a possibility of the particiapnt tending to not write html or play with it and see his/her creation live, which is infact much easier with X-ray goggles. Hence the participant may tend to not use thimble (personal views).
How are you involving Persona and Open Badges in your next event?
What theme did you use to explain Popcorn Maker?

Scoala Altfel - Ocna Mureș - Romania Scoala Altfel - Hateg - Romania
Links and context:
This week is the "Learn in other way " week in all romanian school. so together with a a fellow open source activist +Marcela Oniga we went to an highschool to teach them about FOSS and Webmaker.
https://reps.mozilla.org/e/scoala-altfel-aiud/
Ran webmaker training from Monday to Thursday in my former Highschool. I was there 6 hours a day, running 3-hour long sessions.
I had help from Andrei Iancu, a participant is last year's Code Party, now a student in that highschool.
I used Popcorn for kids aged 10-13 and Thimble for 14-18 year olds.
A few surpized me and discovered popcorn on their own at home, and integrated it into their webpage made with Thimble.
