Goals

To make it possible for add-ons to add swipeable pages to the new about:home redesign.

Specifications

User stories

Add-on developer

  • As an add-on developer, I would like the ability to add a whole new page to about:home that users can swipe to view.
  • As an add-on developer, I would like the ability to specify on which side of the about:home swipeable page layout my page will appear (left or right).
  • As an add-on developer, I do not expect to be able to specify precisely where my page appears in the about:home layout.
  • As an add-on developer, I would like to be able to add a new about:home page and a new about:home tile (see: About:home - Add-ons can add a tile) with the same add-on, and I would like to be able to update them both at the same time (ie: if the data on the page changes, I would like something in the tile to change as well, etc.)

User

  • As a user, I would like to be able to rearrange the pages in my about:home layout into an order that makes sense to me, including any of the default Mozilla pages.
  • As a user, I expect any about:home pages added by add-ons I have installed will be removed when I uninstall that add-on. If this will involve data-loss, I want to be informed of that and asked to verify that I still want to remove the add-on.
  • As a user, I would like to be able to specify which about:home page is my default, including any pages added by add-ons I have installed. (NOTE: verify with Ian and Karen that this is actually something we want...as a user I want it, but I'm not sure whether product/ux is ok with it).
