Distribution Customization

We provide a branding worksheet which outlines areas of the browser we consider for customization. We try and minimize the number of customizations in a build, and prefer to keep the user experience as similar as possible to the release versions of Firefox from on mozilla.com.

The following template can be used for a reference outlining the changes we permit. Please note the template should not be edited directly:

Partner builds are created using the release version of Firefox for the locales mentioned, with the customizations incorporated into a distribution extension (DEX). The DEX contains all of the customizations outlined, and is installed as an extension.

We require that all customizations be applied using repackaging tools we have developed. The repackager is an OSX-based utility, so an OSX machine will be required (only OSX can create .DMG packages that meet requirements, which is why we've gone this route). The best place to start is with the repackaging tool itself. Information about the tool and an overview of the process can be found at:
