August 2018

Highlights

  • The 16th round of Outreachy wrapped this month. We had 12 interns participating across the Firefox, Emerging Technology, and Open Innovation teams. The interns came from India, Kazakhstan, Italy, the US, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Outreachy provides three-month internships in Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities for people from groups traditionally underrepresented in tech. Learn more.
  • The Voice and Influence pilot program wrapped in July and we completed focus groups and program evaluations this month. We are now working on improving the program for the next round, which is slated to launch in Q4. Stay tuned and check out the Voice and Influence mana page to learn more about the pilot round.
  • We shared the results of inclusion measures from the bi-yearly Engagement Survey with Mozilla leaders. We use this data to track our progress against Mozilla's inclusion goals.

Upcoming Opportunities for Participation

  • On Thursday, Sept 13, there will be an Inclusive Hiring session in Mountain View and remote for all managers who have not yet taken it OR took it prior to 2017. Invites will go out this week -- if you have any questions, ping Lizz Noonan

  • The Outreachy Round 17 call for projects is open! You can learn about the requirements for project mentorship on our Outreachy wiki page. Lizz Noonan will be sending an email with the full requirements and instructions for submitting projects after the Mozilla Project Meeting today. Project applications are due by September 10, when intern applications open. If you meet the requirements for mentorship, submit your project here.
  • If you are in the Toronto area, the Diversity and Inclusion Team has some tickets to Elevate Tech Toronto, September 21 - 27. While not a specifically diversity-oriented conference, the organizers are D&I professionals who have designed the conference around inclusion. This is the second year of the event and we are interested to learn about the quality of the conference through attendance by Mozillians. If you are interested in attending, please contact Lizz Noonan.
